Bowie has been adopted!!

After Thanksgiving Abey was found on my friend's property with another dog. We have two Australian Cattle dog rescues and are very familiar with herding dogs. This is why we agreed to take her as opposed to the humane society where she would be put down. I LOVE her but she is very fearful of my husband: She is hyper vigilant--always watching where he is. She just completely freaks out when my husband is around. She will not go out for him or eat when he is around. The only time he can get eye contact with her is if I am sitting by her. She will take treats from him if I am around. Often she will not go through the door if he opens it. I work outside the home and he does most of the care giving for our dogs. My dogs are older and she will not exercise with my husband so she is not getting the activity she needs. I am a therapist and Abey’s hyper vigilance is just like the PTSD clients with whom I work
She is very adoptable. We have a 3 year old and she is wonderful with him. She is not food aggressive or aggressive in any way. Very submissive with our other dogs. We have taken care of all of her medical needs at this time Abey is 3-4 years old. She is on heart worm preventative, flea control, has been spayed and is crate and house trained. She has a strong herding instinct. I took her to my friend’s house yesterday who has chickens. She was instantly on them and you could tell very happy and very much in her element. Abey is very fast, I think she would be a great fly ball or agility dog. I was working with her yesterday and her focus is great.
We will continue to work with her and as the weather warms up we will be able to take her hiking and my husband can play a more restorative role. Meantime, if she continues to be very stressed with us we are sad to think that she will need a new home. Abey is in the Asheville, NC area now, but I am from KY and have family in Frankfort. We could work out transport to there. Please contact Jana at 828-242-0496 or jaitken@parkwaybh.com.

Pistol is a 1.5 year old border collie/belgian sheepdog mix, very playful, likes to be outside but enjoys coming in the house to be with the foster family and other foster dogs. Since he is a working dog he likes to "herd" the smaller dogs and can be somewhat pushy with them. He plays well with dogs his own size and age. I would suggest no small children or cats. While in foster care he has not chewed on anything inappropriate. He sle eps in the house and has not had any pottying accidents. He is fed separate from other dogs because he guards his food but has no problem with the foster mom taking his food or petting him while he eats. He will need a fenced yard, an appropriate playmate, enjoys getting treats and would be easy to train using positive reinforcement and treats, likes being groomed and brushed, really likes attention, very attentive when petting and talking to him. He could use some leash work since he pulls when walking, rides well in crate, is crate trained. He would make someone a wonderful companion and with proper training (no pinch, prong, choker collars), he will bond very close to his owner. He enjoys using his mind and skills. All vaccinations up-to-date. Please contact Sherri Ellett, Adoption Coordinator for Humane Society of Johnson County, Franklin, Indiana Phone: 317-346-7001

Lilly-Jane is six years old. She is a sweetheart, but we have an issue with our younger son's German Shepherd "Rosie". Rosie does not like Lilly, she wants to be the dominating female. Lilly is not aggressive towards other dogs but Rosie is. Due to our 12 year old son, we cannot get rid of Rosie, Lilly was our daughters dog, and she recently got married and is having a baby. We want Lilly-Jane to have a family that can give her more of the attention that she deserves. Please contact Joseph or Kimberly at lahudcraft@gvtel.com

Several months ago, we rescued a litter of five beautiful BC puppies from a cattle farmer who uses the parents for working purposes. They breed and sell puppies every year but he claimed due to the economy that he had trouble selling puppies this year. Whatever his reasons, we convinced him to let us take all of them. We told him we had friends that did agility and herding, which is true. When we found these pups, they were kept in a horse stalls and were terrified to leave the barn: we had to carry them out. These dogs have Kuykendall lines: http://kuykendall-bc.com/index.htm. We found homes for all but two males.

Sonic is an 8months old, rough-coat male. You can see from his photos he is very intense about everything he does. He is a snuggler and greatly affectionate which really irritates our 6 year old BC, but when she has to put him in his place, he shows no Alpha tendencies to argue. We have worked with him on recall and he is doing very well. Doesn't care for hard kibble so we have him on a canned holistic food which was donated to us -- a supply will go with him when he is adopted
Sonic continues to be a little timid in new situations. The dog park has been a great place for him to discover and show off his great BC talents skills and ability…He is very athletic and full of enjoyment when he is able to get out and run about with other dogs. He has big potential for performance or other Border Collie work disciplines…probably with little direction. Quick to learn and very responsive to handling and direction. He does enjoy chasing cats, which speaks to his natural herding instinct and Kuykendall breeding.
From what we have seen and learned about Sonic, think he is well-suited for an active family looking for an all-round companion and willing to do some socializing and basic Obedience Training to show him that its OK and good fun to be a Border Collie.
Sonic is up-to-date on his vaccinations, but is due for Rabies and needs neutering. He is not yet housebroken. We have just advertised within our agility community and have run out of people who fit our criteria. Please feel free to ask any needed questions: Please contact: Jan Yaden at 317-738-4542 or cell 317-412-4662. We are located 35 minutes south of Indpls. Hope to hear from you soon.

Speedy is an 8 month old rough coat male. You can see from his pictures he is very intense about everything he does. Speedy had a little dog aggression issue that seems to be resolved now. The dog park has been very therapeutic. He is an alpha though. Doesn't like to share his food with his brother. He is very in tune with humans. He stays at our feet at all times. We've worked with him on recall and he is doing very well. Doesn't care for hard kibble so we have him on a canned holistic food which was donated to us--a supply will go with him when he is adopted.

From what we have seen and learned about Sonic, we think he is well-suited for an active family interested in working with a dog in just about any of the many disciplines Border Collies excel in. With a little more socializing and some basic Obedience work, he'll learn that being a real BC is a very good thing.
