Copper

I have a video!

I’m Copper. I was a stray found in Wisconsin and brought to a local shelter. The smart people at the shelter knew I would be placed in the best home if a Border Collie rescue organization would help me. I’m a purebred Border Collie. Inside and out. I’m happy, healthy, funny, loving, and very energetic. I’m about 1 to 1 1/2 years old, copper and white color, weight 33 pounds, and 20 inches tall at the shoulder.

I love my toys, especially balls and frisbees, and could chase and catch them all day! I also love to chase everything. Squirrels being my favorite, but my hope is that my prey/chase list will grow to be as big as my foster cousin Jilly (see Jilly’s bio). Oh, lets not forget my first love, herding. I’m not sure if I’m a “working” BC yet. Herding is still a game to me but everyday my foster moms says I’m turning it up a notch. I love to herd my dog friends (only the ones that say it’s okay), cats (the cats in my foster home are very dog savvy and tell me enough- I stop or else), and small children (especially on bicycles-these crazy kids like it, I guess most would not). I was caught herding a crawling insect in my driveway (I did not want him to go into the house!). My herding is with very soft nips or leg grabs and no barking. I want to be next to my human foster family and snuggle all the time, but will settle down without much fuss. I love my food treats, but all of the above activities are much more rewarding to me. Because I want to chase so many things, I’m learning to walk on a lead using a gentle leader harness. I know how to sit, down, go to the mat, and come. I’m working on stay and recall to a whistle. My foster mom also tells me “enough” when I’m herding the kids and other dogs and they want stop “playing”. She also says ‘thanks you” for doing my job (herding) so well. I’m good off leash, but need to be watched very carefully. I should not be trusted in an unfenced area(or electric fence-my drive is stonger than a zap) without direct supervision.

So whats my ideal forever home like; A home familiar with BC’s or other herding group dogs, very active, plans to attend obedience classes, wants to do competitive sports (Flyball, Disc, Agility-for fun is okay, but I hope to be a Champion), a dog sister or brother, children of all ages are okay if they are not timid around dogs and can help me redirect my urge to herd and love them so much, dog savvy cats only - the others will just be tormented, a fenced yard- my exploring can get out of control if not supervised.

I’m a great dog and plan to make my forever family very proud!!!
