7/29/09 KayCee has been with MBCR since June 2 and is doing very well. Her coat is coming back very nicely, and she is proving herself to be quite a young lady. She is a very busy 7 year old girl and loves to be near her foster Mom as much as possible. Her BC world seems to have opened up considerably, and her curiosity is endless about such things as being in the real woods—brush piles are great fun for her but she moves on quickly to see whatever exciting discovery is down the trail. Her house manners are excellent, and she is content to lie near wherever the family is gathering. She is housebroken and crate trained and since that seems to be her choice for nighttime sleeping, I haven’t argued with her since she is being stubborn about learning the doggy door preferring to sneak through behind the other bigger dogs, or waiting for someone to hold it for her… We are working on that. She rarely goes more than 30-40 feet off leash, and constantly stops to look back and check on where everyone is and what they are doing…and in fact won’t follow the other two dogs who find chipmunks and other wonderful smells to chase after. Her eye contact is excellent. Shortly after we took KayCee into our Adoption Program, we recognized physical issues that we felt needed to be investigated. After lots of blood work, ultrasound, etc., etc….much testing and poking, hypothyroidism was found. She will be on inexpensive daily medicine for the remainder of her life which will be otherwise quite normal. Several other things didn’t look quite right to the vet, who suspected perhaps a tick-borne disease might be interfering with her entire immune system. We are waiting for the results of those tests now.
