Baxter and Gracie

Baxter, who was named Colin when he was in foster care with MBCR in Indiana, is now living the Life of Riley in rural Chippewa Falls Wisconsin. He's been here on the farm for 1 year, since April 2005, and he's part of a big happy family. When I saw his picture on the website I just knew he belonged with our family and I knew his name really was Baxter. He would be the perfect indoor dog, just a couch potato. However, he was greeted at our house by his sister, Gracie, who we adopted in March of 2005 from Michigan with MBCR. Gracie was a beautiful little gal but she had lots of tummy troubles that kept her in foster care so we lucked out in adopting her. She would be the perfect farm dog, loves to be outside doing chores and would never leave the farmyard.

When you mix Baxter and Gracie together, you have chaos. Indoors they rough-house for hours and try to herd the Boston Terriers, Henry & Scoobi Sue, and the calico cat, Azhkwai. They cannot go outside together because they run away, so the dogs have to go outside in shifts: Baxter & Scoobi first, then Gracie and Henry.

At chore time, Baxter, Scoobi and Henry all go outside first, and then when we get ready to do the chores, the 3 come back in and Gracie goes around very business-like and gives them all a little kiss as if to say, "Ok guys, I must be off to do my chores, hold down the fort in here" and she's off to the barn. Both Border Collies have a healthy respect for the herd of horses, but Gracie does enjoy dining with them, if you get my drift. Here's a picture of Baxter, Henry and Scoobi Sue at Christmas (the Boston Terriers don't like Gracie so she couldn't get in the picture with them), a picture of Baxter and my husband in the recliner, and a Christmas picture of Gracie.
